Explanation

shorekeeper shorekeeper

Shorekeeper is a versatile support unit that grants Crit buffs to any ally within her Resonance Liberation's field, while also continuously healing them. Shorekeeper has further utility, such as damage amplification, knockdown recovery, and K.O. prevention.

She is the go-to third-slot Support for almost all teams and is the most valuable unit to have in Wuthering Waves.

cartethyia cartethyia

Cartethyia is so far the best Aero DPS character in the game. She is able to deal insane amounts of damage and can apply Aero Erosion herself even without a dedicated applicator. Considering she scales off the HP stat, her potential is basically through the roof.

She has basically overshadowed Jiyan as the premier Aero DPS unit, and may even be for a long while.

phrolova phrolova

Phrolova is a Havoc DPS that scales off Resonance Skill and Echo Skill DMG, a pretty niche combination that only works with a handful of other characters.

Though she can be flexble because of her off-field capabilities, Phrolova will need heavy investment to get her full potential. Her weapon is very important to her, and should be pulled if you plan on using her.

This huge investment makes it a bit detrimental for team building, but when satisfied Phrolova is one of the best teams around that can perform extremely well in multi-wave content like Whimpering Wastes.

augusta augusta

Augusta is a top-tier Electro DPS character that dishes out extremely high Heavy Attack DMG with her Heavy Attack and Resonance Skill combos. She also has one of the strongest unique abilities in the game, as she can stop time for seven seconds with her Liberation. This also pauses timers for abilities and even end-game content.

Despite being a strong DPS, she is considered to be a low-investment character due to being very easy to build. Her main Echo set's effect is activated at 3-pcs, and one of her strongest teammates is a 4-star from Version 1.0, Mortefi, making her quite F2P-friendly.

iuno iuno

Iuno is an exceptional Aero Sub-DPS character capable of doing pretty much everything: amplifies Heavy Attack DMG, heals HP & regenerates stamina, and deal non-negligible personal damage on top of all that. She is one of the most flexible unit in the game as she can fulfill multiple roles in a team.

The only downside with Iuno is her lack of free-to-play weapon options and how her entire kit is only maximized when she's with Augusta. When she's with Augusta though, she enables the best Electro team in this game so far.

chisa chisa

Chisa is the universal Negative Status Support unit, being able to increase the max stack count for all status effects while providing multiple DEF reduction against enemies with her usage of Havoc Bane and her skill, Thread of Bane.

Her value comes from her flexibility to maximize any Negative Status effect, but is severely hindered by the lack of implementation of comps that utilize these mechanics in the game. She is currently a luxury unit to both Aero Erosion and Spectro Frazzle support units, but is likely to see more value if more Negative Status Effects teams are introduced.

lynae lynae

Lynae is a very strong sub-DPS unit, able to fit into a lot of teams thanks to her general buffs provided, namely both All DMG Bonus and Amplification via Liberation and Outro. Furthermore, she is a driver for Tune Break, giving a boost to essentially any Resonator.

Aside from this, she deals a lot of damage on her own and has great utility even outside of combat. Using her roller skates, she can explore a lot faster than by running and can even camouflage to avoid enemy aggression. She also provides an upgrade to the Expedition Motorcycle, allowing for more boosts with the vehicle.

mornye mornye

Mornye is a strong healer support unit, performing similarly to Shorekeeper with the amount of utility, buffs, and sustain she provides to the entire team. With the introduction of the Off-Tune and Tune Break Mechanics in 3.0, she opens up a new type of playstyle together with Lynae, revolving mainly on triggering strong Tune Breaks as much as possible.

As a playable character, she gives All DMG amplification and enhances Off-Tune Buildup Rate for all Resonators, while also increasing the DMG taken by enemies. Furthermore, she can alternate between Tune Rupture and Tune Strain - Shifting effects, letting her perform a special attack with the former or stack with other Strain-enabled units. As for sustain and utility, she gives extra DEF stats, interruption resistance, and enhanced healing.

aemeath aemeath

Aemeath is a meta-defining DPS character with her being the premier damage dealer for two different team comps. She is applicable in either Tune Rupture or Fusion Burst compositions based on her active Resonance Mode, and she has one of the highest damage ceilings in the game.

As a playable character, she provides a lot to the table with her ability to apply and consume Fusion Burst on her own, inflict Tune Rupture and stack with other Tune Rupture-enabled Resonators, and increase her own DMG multipliers throughout her kit. She can amplify All DMG types for allies with her Outro, and provide utility through her Mech's flight capacity.

sigrika sigrika

Sigrika is a hypercarry unit that particularly plays well into the Echo Skill DMG archetype. She requires some investment due to the lack of supports and weapons that focus on this DMG type, but the payoff is worth it.

Sigrika has some of the highest DMG multipliers in-game with her self-buffing capabilities that let her increase her DMG output at S0. Furthermore, she has great utility in her kit, providing highly useful crowd control in endgame content like Whimpering Wastes.

hiyuki hiyuki

Hiyuki is a strong Glacio DPS character expected to see even more improvements as the game introduces more characters. With Glacio Chafe being a unique Negative Status mechanic, Hiyuki is likely to see upgrades should newer characters release.

In the current state of the game (3.X), Hiyuki's strength already rivals some of the top teams in the meta. Her high DMG multipliers make her quite competitive. Additionally, her kit provides amazing coverage for both utility and self-buffing, as she can apply and utilize Glacio Chafe stacks on her own. Aside from this, she has AoE crowd-control, damage negation, and strong nuke attacks.

verina verina

Verina provides both healing and buffs for your entire party using her entire kit. She also periodically does coordinated attacks that deal Spectro DMG while healing the currently active character.

Even if Verina lacks the Crit Rate and Crit Damage buffs that the Shorekeeper provides, her value is found in her short on-field time, making her a valuable asset in teams with DPS units that require a lot of on-field time.

jiyan jiyan

Jiyan is a great DPS units that can deal amazing single-target and AoE damage to take on any enemy in the game. His Ultimate can group smaller enemies which is also a means for crowd control. With the introduction of Whimpering Wastes, Jiyan found a specific niche that increased his value which now makes him one a versatile unit to pick up.

carlotta carlotta

Carlotta is the premier Glacio DPS unit capable of dishing out consistent burst damage that scales off her Resonance Skill. With this in mind, she works perfectly with Zhezhi considering Zhezhi amplifies both Resonance Skill and Glacio DMG.

With the meta shifting away from standard DPS characters and having a lack of Glacio units being released, Carlotta has somewhat fallen off in recent patches.

phoebe phoebe

Phoebe is a hybrid Spectro DPS unit capable of dishing great Spectro DMG, as long as the enemy is affected by Spectro Frazzle. While not on the same level as Zani, she still performs well with the added bonus of her flexibility to become a sub-DPS Spectro Frazzle applicator if the need arises.

Currently, Phoebe's best role is to be the premiere Spectro Frazzle Sub-DPS with her ability to amplify allies' DMG and reduce enemies' Spectro DMG RES.

brant brant

Brant is a Fusion character who can provide team-wide buffs and sustain, without the expense of his personal damage, as he can convert ER to Attack. While he's best paired with Changli, F2P teams that focus on Basic Attacks and Resonance Skills would still want Brant, as his Outro Skill, on top of his Forte Circuit, enables him to do so!

cantarella cantarella

Cantarella is a Havoc character that provides a lot to different teams, and is a premium character for Mono Havoc Teams. She opens up options to run a second sub-DPS instead of a support character as her kit provides some healing and sustain.

She provides Resonance and Havoc DMG amplification, making her quite flexible in buffing various DPS units, and she is able to deal extra damage with her off-field Coordinated attacks, boosting overall team damage potential.

Cantarella is the most important character in Phrolova teams, as she basically enables the entire Echo Skill DMG team. Outside of this however, Cantarella is much more of a secondary option.

zani zani

Zani is a strong niche Spectro DPS in the game, utilizing Spectro Frazzle compositions to maximize her damage output.

During her debut, she has been a premier DPS for majority of the patches. However, the recent updates have slowly strayed away from Spectro Frazzle and have given more highlight to Tune Break. As such, she remains a top tier unit, but currently not among the best.

ciaccona ciaccona

Ciaccona is an Aero character that provides excellent buffing and debuffing capabilities to team members and enemies, respectively. As a unit, she is able to apply multiple instances of Aero Erosion and Spectro Frazzle throughout her kit which makes her a very versatile unit that works in multiple teams.

With the release of Cartethyia, her full kit is now in full bloom - with Cartethyia utilizing her Aero Erosion application and Aero DMG bonus fully!

lupa lupa

Lupa is the premier Fusion DMG enabler that brings Fusion teams to new heights. When in mono-Fusion teams, the value she brings into the table is huge and is basically the final piece of the puzzle for Fusion teams. Unfortunately, this also makes her extremely limited when it comes to team building as she would require all three Resonators to be Fusion.

galbrena galbrena

Galbrena is a strong Fusion DPS with a few caveats to her as a playable character. Her kit has a split scaling between Echo Skill DMG and Heavy Attack DMG, with the former amounting to a bigger portion of her damage.

While she can fit in a lot of teams due to this quirk, she also can't be fully maximized with the majority of her teammates. Furthermore, there aren't many sources of Echo Skill DMG buffs in the game. Due to this, she is essentially tied to her Signature Weapon, as other weapons cannot give her the DMG buffs she needs aside from the stats they give.

qiuyuan qiuyuan

Qiuyuan is the premier Echo Skill DMG buffer that takes up only a few seconds for his rotation to pass on his buffs to the next Resonator. His combos are extremely straight-forward and deals okay damage as a sub-DPS.

His main value comes from his buffing capabilities, being able to give multiple Echo Skill DMG buffs and amplification via his Forte and Outro, on top of giving extra Crit. DMG to the next Resonator.

luuk_herssen luuk_herssen

Luuk Herssen is a general standard Spectro DPS unit that exemplifies the Tune Strain mechanic. Being the premier DPS character for it, Luuk Herssen boosts his damage quite a lot by inflicting and utilizing Tune Strain stacks onto enemies.

Luuk Herssen's playstyle mainly revolves around his mid-air combos, so he's quite susceptible to interruption and STA consumption. This playstyle, however, is quite rewarding, as he offers some of the highest damage against enemies as long as he can execute his combos effectively.

denia denia

Denia is a strong sub-DPS capable of exemplifying two main archetypes, the Fusion Burst and the Tune Strain comps with Aemeath and Luuk Herssen, respectively. While she doesn't provide generalist buffs like Lynae, she excels at what she does by being an applicator and buffer to the Fusion Burst Negative Status and a Tune Break Boost buffer to Tune Strain.

As a sub-DPS, Denia is great at what she does by providing value to specifically just these two team comps. She has fast rotations in her kit with her two modes, leaving the DPS to have more time on-field. Furthermore, she deploys an Erosion Field that deals good off-field damage over 30s, while also having crowd-control of pulling nearby enemies to the center, great for AoE-based content.

Outside of her specific team comps, she's mostly viable in Fusion teams with Lupa or Mornye. She's not recommended to be in general teams, as she doesn't really provide high DMG buffs for the team.

sanhua sanhua

Sanhua is one of the best Sub-DPS in the game, providing Basic Attack DMG Deepen for 14s to the next character who takes the field. She also deals pretty decent damage but relies heavily on making sure she detonates the ice structures using her Heavy Attacks.

calcharo calcharo

Calcharo is an Electro Main-DPS unit that can dish out a great amount of Electro damage with both his Skill and Liberation. With the introduction of Yinlin, he now has a really great sub-DPS that pushes him to greater heights.

encore encore

Encore is a great choice for a Fusion DPS in the game. She is a Main-DPS character who focuses on pure damage with no cares in the world.

When Encore enters Cosmos Rave, she deals an insane amount of Fusion DMG. She can be quite squishy though as her Cosmos Rave state does not provide any type of crowd control at all compared to Jiyan. This can potentially be a problem if you're getting hit a lot considering Encore's Cosmos Rave only lasts for 10s.

rover_spectro rover_spectro

Rover (Spectro) is a jack of all trades, providing great Sub-DPS capabilities by executing time stop with their Outro Skill while showing glimmers of Main-DPS capabilities with her high-damage Resonance Liberation.

Unfortunately, this resulted in the Spectro Rover falling off compared to other characters that have pure Main-DPS or Sub-DPS roles.

rover_havoc rover_havoc

Rover (Havoc) is an great damage dealer that allows for easy activation of their Dark Surge state. They have high burst damage capability thanks to their Resonance Liberation, but their Basic Attack is where they shine the most. Just make sure to hone your dodging skills as you need to maximize the Basic Attack damage you deal during Dark Surge as much as possible.

Their unique interaction with the Dreamless increases Havoc Rover's burst damage potential, easily clearing both single and multiple enemies in a short time.

jinhsi jinhsi

A great Spectro Main-DPS character that deals a huge amount of burst damage with her Skill and Resonance Liberation. Her multipliers are insanely high that it can decimate any enemy that comes her way.

Though still a great pick, her age is showing now when compared to newer units.

changli changli

Changli is a great main-DPS unit that can deal huge amounts of Fusion damage with her fully-stacked Forte Circuit. She can even self-buff her ATK after using her Ultimate, to deal even more damage.

Changli can even take on a role of a Sub-DPS thanks to her Outro Skill, but generally we would not want to do that as she can deal an insane amount of damage as a Main DPS and take up too much on-field time.

zhezhi zhezhi

A great Sub-DPS unit that provides buffs on characters that scales off Resonance Skill with bonus amplification of Glacio DMG.

She is currently the best in slot Subu-DPS for two of the best DPS in the game - Jinhsi and Carlotta. This makes her one of the most versatile units in the game.

xiangli_yao xiangli_yao

A great Main DPS unit that slows down enemy movement and deals a lot of damage to enemies as long as you know how to use him. He relies a lot on Resonance Liberation DMG so any character, weapon, or Echoes that buff it works great with Xiangli Yao.

Unfortunately, is completely overshadowed by the newer Electro character Augusta, and will most likely for a while.

camellya camellya

Camellya is a great Havoc DPS unit that is capable of dishing out combos that are far reaching and mostly at an AoE. She also has access to a free Sub-DPS that could work, making Camellya's team extremely easy to build.

Still a great unit to build due to her being easy to build, but her age is showing when compared against more modern Havoc units like Phrolova.

roccia roccia

Roccia is a great Havoc Sub-DPS unit capable of providing increases to both Basic Attack and Havoc DMG. She also have access to a good grouping utility that will help your DPS decimate hordes of enemies easily. Her personal damage is also not negligible, improving the overall damage by the entire team which is great in time-limited endgame modes like the Tower of Adversity.

Unfortunately, she can only mostly thrive in a Havoc team which makes her team composition quite limited.

buling buling

Buling is a great 4-star support healer that applies Electro Flare onto enemies. Aside from heals, she also provides decent Resonance Skill DMG amplification and grouping capabilities, making her a decent alternative to more premium support units.

mortefi mortefi

Mortefi has a mechanic that allows coordinated Fusion attacks to follow whenever you attack enemies. This ensures Mortefi deals damage even when off-field, exponentially increasing Mortefi's value in fights. He is also a 4-star unit so you can get him quite easily.

His value also increases even more when the on-field DPS uses Heavy Attacks which is quite common for most DPS's in the game.

danjin danjin

Danjin is a great DPS to have as a free-to-play player. This character can dish out huge amounts of damage as long as you can properly manage her HP-drain mechanic. This may be quite hard to do when facing tougher enemies, so player skill plays a big role in making sure Danjin survives fights.

jianxin jianxin

Jianxin is a solid middle ground for being both a Main and Sub-DPS in Wuthering Waves. She can hold on her own as a Main-DPS, providing grouping and AoE damage against multiple enemies. Her Outro Skill also buffs Resonance Liberation DMG so she can be a great Sub-DPS as well.

Similar to Spectro Rover, this jack-of-all-trades situation caused Jianxin to fall off compared to other characters that have a defined role in the meta.

lingyang lingyang

Lingyang is simply getting outclassed by his standard 5-star peers in the current state of the game, especially those that have great AoE damage capabilities. He also currently does not have a dedicated Glacio support right now and his damage has been subpar compared to other Main-DPS in the game.

yinlin yinlin

Yinlin is a great sub-DPS that not only provides bonuses for Liberation DMG and Electro DMG, but also sends out Electro coordinated attacks for extra damage. This enables Yinlin to deal damage even when off-field, increasing her value even more.

Unfortunately, her value has since dropped down thanks to the advent of more multi-wave content in the game. The inconsistencies with her marks application proved detrimental in her overall performance.

rover_aero rover_aero

Rover (Aero) currently suffers from having no other available characters that fully utilize their kit. While Rover (Aero) is a great applicator of negative effects on enemies, there is a limited character pool that has negative effects built into their kit.

They are the best in slot Support for one of the best teams in the game, Aero Erosion, making a case for improvements in performance.

aalto aalto

Aalto can be seen as a good Sub-DPS unit that can buff Aero DMG while holding on his own by dealing a decent amount of damage. This, however, is being outclassed by the likes of other Sub-DPS like Mortefi by dealing damage even if off-field.

yuanwu yuanwu

Yuanwu is a Sub-DPS unit that, similar to Mortefi, follows up with coordinated Electro DMG even when he's off-field. He could also reduce the enemy's Vibration Strength, which is basically the toughness bar below certain enemies.

However, this only applies if the enemy is inside the circle of effect so it could be easily avoided by mobile enemies in Wuthering Waves.

chixia chixia

Chixia is a DPS unit that excels against hoards of enemies because of her mobility and ease of use. She can take on single-target bosses with ease as long as you can reposition and evade properly.

When dealing with mobs of enemies, however, you will see this benefit slowly go down as she can easily be mobbed by multiple enemies if you are not careful enough.

baizhi baizhi

Baizhi is a pure-healer you can run when you do not have the Shorekeeper and Verina. She can burst-heal using her Resonance Skill and Liberation as well as continuously heal and buff the next character that takes the field for 36s. Unlocking her Inherent Skill 1 also provides ATK boosts to the next on-field DPS that picks up the Euphonia that You'tan generates.

Baizhi is worse than Verina because her buffs only apply to the next character that swaps in - not to the entire party. This essentially limits the flow of switching when using Baizhi versus Verina.

yangyang yangyang

Yangyang is the first free 4-star character that all players will get. Though she provides decent damage and utility with her Aero grouping, she falls off immediately once the player unlocks better Sub-DPS that provides DMG buffs.

taoqi taoqi

With the introduction of Jinhsi, Taoqi has found a new Sub-DPS role in her team - providing Resonance Skill amplification while dishing quick-switch damage with her Resonance Liberation.

Unfortunately, her glaring problems still exist particularly the split scaling with her Forte and Shields. She could've been a great Sub-DPS-Support hybrid character if the scaling are constant across her kit.

youhu youhu

A healer-support hybrid that can provide multiple buffs and effects in battle from healing to vibration strength depletion efficiency. Unfortunately, the buffs are obtained by rolling a kit-based RNG system that proves to be extremely inconsistent when used in teams. Though you can force some effects to happen, the effects will be random most of the times and can sometimes mess up rotations.

In addition, her Outro Skill only buffs the incoming resonator's Coordinated Attack which is pretty niche in itself. We only have a handful of Resonators that can use coordinated attacks, so Youhu's value decreases even more.

lumi lumi

A Sub-DPS unit that can provide Resonance Skill DMG Amplification via her Outro Skill. Her kit is fairly straightforward with good multipliers for her Forte Circuit and Resonance Liberation. Her damage tends to fall off when doing Basic Attacks with her two Light Modes, but can deal decent damage when her Forte Circuit is full.
