HoYoverse Is Sending HSR’s Kafka and Robin to ZZZ. The Crossover Raises More Questions Than Answers.

HoYoverse has been steadily connecting its largest games through crossovers. Zenless Zone Zero’s Astra Yao and Ellen Joe are already set to appear in Honkai: Star Rail version 4.8. Now the crossover is going the other way. During the ZZZ 3.3 Special Program livestream, the developer revealed that HSR’s Kafka and Robin will arrive in Zenless Zone Zero as part of the 3.4 update.

The announcement was brief. At roughly the 33-minute mark of the stream, HoYoverse showed official artwork of both characters drawn in ZZZ’s visual style. No gameplay footage appeared. No kits, elements, or roles were discussed. For a reveal that fans have speculated about for months, the teaser was light on substance.

What the teaser actually confirms

Here is what HoYoverse has officially stated about the crossover:

  • Kafka and Robin from Honkai: Star Rail will appear in Zenless Zone Zero.
  • They are part of the version 3.4 update.
  • Official art of both characters in ZZZ’s art style exists and was shown on stream.

That is the complete list of confirmed details. Everything else, including how the characters will function in combat and whether players can add them to their rosters, remains unconfirmed.

When 3.4 is expected to arrive

Zenless Zone Zero version 3.3 launches on October 20, 2026. Phase I runs until approximately November 10 and features Phoenix (S-Rank, Fire, Anomaly) as the new character alongside a rerun of Velina Airgrid. Phase II runs from around November 10 to December 1, introducing Severian Lowell (S-Rank, Wind, Attack) with a rerun of Norma Hollowell. Halloween events called Night of Supernatural Tricks and Spooky Funhouse Tales will run alongside the banners.

ZZZ follows a roughly six-week patch cycle. If that pattern holds, version 3.4 should arrive in late November or early December 2026. HoYoverse has not confirmed those dates.

What is still unknown

The list of missing information is longer than what HoYoverse has confirmed. The developer has not stated:

  • Whether Kafka and Robin will be playable agents or story-only characters.
  • Their elements, rarities, or combat roles in ZZZ’s system.
  • Which banner phase they will appear in, or whether they will share a phase.
  • If they will be obtainable through limited-time banners, events, or some other method.
  • Whether the crossover includes any story content, events, or rewards.

HoYoverse has a history of making crossover characters into limited banner units in other games. That pattern makes playable agents the most likely outcome, but it is not guaranteed.

What this means for Honkai: Star Rail players

Kafka is a core piece of HSR’s DoT team archetype, often paired with Black Swan, Sampo, and Luka. Robin is one of the strongest supports in the game, especially for follow-up attack teams built around Dr. Ratio, Topaz, and Aventurine. Both characters have dedicated fanbases in HSR, and seeing them appear in a different game is unusual.

But this is a ZZZ event, not an HSR one. The characters will be rebuilt from the ground up to fit ZZZ’s combat mechanics. Their kits, roles, and even their power level may look nothing like what HSR players are used to. Anyone expecting their HSR abilities to carry over directly should adjust those expectations now.

For HSR players who want to pull for them in ZZZ, the usual advice applies: start saving Polychromes. Limited-time banners in HoYoverse games typically require currency reserves. Without official banner details or pity rates, specific pull recommendations are not possible yet.

The bigger picture: crossovers are becoming the norm

The Kafka and Robin crossover is not happening in isolation. HoYoverse previously confirmed that ZZZ’s Astra Yao and Ellen Joe will appear in Honkai: Star Rail version 4.8. That means both games are receiving characters from the other within a relatively short window. For fans of HoYoverse’s broader universe, this is the closest thing to a shared continuity the company has built so far.

Whether these crossovers become a regular feature or remain one-off events is unclear. But the pattern suggests HoYoverse sees value in letting its player bases sample each other’s games through familiar characters.

Events and rewards: nothing to report yet

HoYoverse has not announced any events, login bonuses, or reward structures tied to the crossover. The 3.3 update includes Halloween events, but those are unrelated to Kafka and Robin. If the crossover comes with its own event content, that information has not been shared.

What comes next

HoYoverse will likely share more details as 3.4 approaches. The version 3.4 Special Program, assuming the usual schedule, would air a few weeks before the patch goes live. That stream is the most probable venue for a proper gameplay reveal, banner confirmation, and any story or event details.

Until then, the only concrete thing fans have is a single piece of artwork and a confirmation that two popular characters are on their way. For a crossover this anticipated, the wait for real information has only just begun.
