ZZZ 3.1: Free S-Rank agent giveaway, first Lumen character, and five swimsuit costumes
HoYoverse is giving away a free S-Rank agent and their W-Engine as part of Zenless Zone Zero’s second anniversary, and that alone would make version 3.1 worth a look. But the July 29 update also delivers the game’s first Lumen-element character, five swimsuit costumes, and enough banners to drain any Proxy’s Polychrome stash. Here is what this patch actually means for players.
The anniversary giveaway changes things for f2p players
Between July 29 and the start of version 3.2, every player can pick one S-Rank agent and that agent’s W-Engine from a list of five options. The choices are Soldier 0 Anby, Hugo, Jane Doe, Lucia, and Trigger. For newer players this is a shortcut to a top-tier roster slot. For veterans it may feel like a tough call between a duplicate for a Mindscape Cinema or a character they skipped. The official materials do not say whether the reward comes through a login event, a quest chain, or a mail delivery, so check your inbox on day one.
On top of the giveaway, HoYoverse is handing out 20 Signal Searches and 1,600 Polychromes through anniversary login rewards. That is roughly 13 pulls worth of currency plus the 20 tapes, making for about 33 total pulls just from logging in.
Remielle introduces a brand-new element
The biggest mechanical news in 3.1 is Remielle, an S-Rank Anomaly agent who uses the Lumen element. She is the first character in the game to wield this damage type, which means team-building around her requires some guesswork until theorycrafters get their hands on her kit. Her banner runs for the entire patch, giving players the full six weeks to decide. That is unusual for ZZZ and suggests HoYoverse expects some players to hesitate before investing in an unproven element.
Sigrid, the second new agent, plays a familiar role. She is an S-Rank Ice Attacker who can slot into established Ice teams alongside Lycaon or Soukaku. Her banner hits in the second half of the patch alongside reruns of Dialyn, Harumasa, and Yuzuha. Unlike Remielle, Sigrid has a shorter window, so players who want both will need to budget their Polychromes carefully.

The Phase 2 rerun lineup is stacked. Harumasa is an Electric Attacker with a strong track record, while Yuzuha and Dialyn fill different utility slots. Players who missed any of them in earlier patches now have a second chance.
Five swimsuit costumes plus a gown
Version 3.1 goes heavy on cosmetics. Five swimsuit outfits and one formal gown are arriving, and only one of them is free.
- Remielle gets two costumes: the Seashade Pas Seul swimsuit (shop) and the Moonlight Whispers gown (shop, with veiled and unveiled variants). The gown can be bought alone or bundled with the swimsuit.
- Sigrid wears Majestic Wavechaser (swimsuit, shop).
- Vivian gets Iris of the Shore (swimsuit, shop).
- Lucy’s Princess on Holiday swimsuit is earnable through the Summer Waves Roll In event, making it the only free costume in this batch.
The Monochrome Market double bonus resets with the patch. If you were planning to buy Monochromes anyway, waiting until after July 29 gets you twice the value per top-up.
Events beyond the anniversary
Summer Waves Roll In is the flagship limited-time event, and its main draw is Lucy’s free costume. The exact tasks and duration are not in the official materials, so expect details at launch.
Enigma of the Labyrinth: Operation Bagel is a new mode arriving on day one. No official information about its gameplay loop or rewards has been released yet.
Operation Yum starts rolling out worldwide at the end of July 2026. Again, specific dates and rewards are unconfirmed.
What to do before July 29
Finish any lingering content from version 3.0 before the patch lands. If you are sitting on a limited banner close to pity, decide now whether to spend or save. Check your Monochrome Market double bonus status — if it still shows as available, do not use it until after the reset. And if you are chasing Remielle or Sigrid, hold onto your Polychromes rather than pulling on the current banners.
Day-one checklist
Log in as soon as maintenance ends. Claim the anniversary rewards and Signal Searches first. Start the Summer Waves Roll In event to unlock Lucy’s costume. Explore the Enigma of the Labyrinth mode to see if it offers weekly or one-time rewards. If you are considering Remielle, run her trial stage before deciding to pull. Her banner is available from the first minute of the patch, so there is no rush.
