Claret Gets Official ZZZ Wallpapers, and Players Are Split on What It Means

If you spend any time in Zenless Zone Zero fan spaces, you already know Claret. She is the legendary Porcelloy smith, a character who has never been playable, yet she has a following that rivals some actual agents. So when HoYoverse quietly pushed out a set of official wallpapers built around her, the reaction was immediate, loud, and a little complicated.

The images went up through the game’s official social channels, with a link to a HoYoLAB page where Proxies can grab the full collection. No resolutions were listed in the announcement, and no exact count of wallpapers was given either. What is clear is the price: free.

What the community actually said

Reaction split along three lines, and the loudest voices were not the ones you might expect.

The bulk of the excitement came from fans who have been waiting for any official nod to Claret at all. One comment on the official subreddit put it simply: “Finally, some love for Claret!” People in this camp are already swapping customized home screens and thanking the developer for the free art. They are not asking for anything more.

A second, smaller group read the release as a signal. They point out that other NPCs have built up popularity and later joined the roster, and they wonder whether Claret could be next. HoYoverse has said nothing to back that theory up. As of now, her playability is unconfirmed and subject to change, full stop.

Then there is the skeptical minority. Their argument is blunt: wallpapers are nice, but the game has endgame content and character balance issues that could use the attention instead. Free art does not fix those, they say. That view shows up in comment sections but does not dominate them.

The numbers behind the noise

  • The official subreddit thread cleared 500 upvotes within 24 hours of going live.
  • On Twitter, #ClaretWallpapers briefly trended inside the Zenless Zone Zero community, though sentiment there was mixed.
  • A poll on a popular ZZZ Discord server found 65% of respondents had downloaded the wallpapers, 20% were indifferent, and 15% had no idea the release happened.

What HoYoverse has said (and not said)

The developer has not followed up the wallpaper drop with any additional statement. That is normal for this kind of cosmetic release, which usually ships without commentary. There is also still no official word on whether Claret will ever become a playable agent, so any speculation on that front is exactly that: speculation.

Why this release matters

Read it as a piece of the bigger picture and the pattern is familiar. Free cosmetic drops between major updates keep the community talking and keep goodwill high, especially among fans of supporting characters. Claret fits that role perfectly. She is prominent enough in the story that her fans feel seen, but not so prominent that her absence from the roster feels like an oversight.

At the same time, the mixed reaction shows the ceiling on this kind of content. Wallpapers generate engagement, but they do not satisfy the players asking for playable agents or deeper lore. The demand is real, and a handful of high-resolution images will not quietly make it go away.

For now, the wallpapers are live, they are free, and they are worth grabbing if you are a fan of the character. If you want more ZZZ coverage, our Zenless Zone Zero section has guides and news, including the free Polychrome from the 2nd Anniversary login bonus.
