Volley Star looks like a lighthearted beach activity in Neverness to Everness. But beneath the sand and sun, it’s a fully structured 2v2 mode where coordination, cooldown management, and a few smart upgrades separate the winners from the rest. And with rewards climbing as high as 500,000 Fons in a single Weekly Match, it’s worth taking seriously.
The mode costs City Stamina to enter, so you want every match to count. Here is what you need to know: how to unlock it, how to win, what each mode offers, and which characters you can recruit.
Getting in: the quest and the update requirement
Volley Star is classified as a Hethereau Hobby in NTE. To access it, you must finish the side quest called Beat On, the Heart of Summer, which starts in the Duskmoor region. The quest triggers automatically when you log in after installing the NTE 1.3 update. If it hasn’t appeared in your journal yet, check that your game is up to date.
How matches work, and the rule that keeps them alive
The scoring rule is simple and strict: your team must reach seven points and hold a two-point lead to win. If neither side meets that condition, the match keeps going. That design makes comebacks possible even from large deficits, so there is no safe lead until the final point lands.
Character upgrades matter a lot here. Improving your characters’ skills raises their stats and ability effectiveness, which directly affects your chances. There is also an odd exploit that some players have found: parking construction site trucks in front of the opponent’s net can trigger an automatic win. It works for now, but it is the kind of bug that usually gets patched out.
Three modes, three purposes
Volley Star splits into three distinct modes, each serving a different goal.
Rookie Series is a PvE ladder with four stages. This is where you recruit new characters. The stages ramp up in difficulty: Warm-Up, First Serve, Finding Form, and Pro Arena. Winning Rookie Series matches awards Star Power, a currency you trade for Talent Bread. All Rookie Series games happen at Starfall Bay.
Weekly Match is the competitive PvP tournament. It resets each week and costs City Stamina to enter. Even if you lose, you still earn Fons. The payout structure is straightforward:
- Winner: 500,000 Fons
- Runner-up: 400,000 Fons
- Top 4: 300,000 Fons
- Top 8: 200,000 Fons
- Elimination: 50,000 Fons
Participation also adds points to your Weekly Ranking, which unlocks unique title rewards. Matches take place at the indoor volleyball court inside the Orichalcos Imaginist venue.
Open Match is the casual mode. No stakes, no rankings — just games against other players whenever you want.

Volley Star has five unlockable characters. Each one requires clearing a specific Rookie Series stage. There is no gacha or currency gate here — just progression through the PvE ladder.
