When building a team, avoid using Hydro Traveler unless necessary for Pneuma mechanics and you don't own the Sword of Descension or Sword of Narzessinkreuz yet.
Traveler does not generate particles if interrupted during the hold state of their Skill.
Key points to consider:

  • Avoid interrupting Traveler during their Skill hold state to maintain particle generation
  • Use Traveler with Hydro element only when necessary for specific mechanics or reactions

Hydro Traveler is a support character in Genshin Impact, and his personal DPS is not high enough to clear the Abyss, unless used in an extremely expensive and invested team. To increase his damage output, consider the following:

  • Use a Staff or Spear as his primary weapon, as they provide higher damage output compared to other options.
  • Equip him with artifacts from the Emblem of Severed Fate set, which provides a 20% Elemental Mastery bonus.
  • Run a Hydro elemental reaction team composition, utilizing reactions such as Hydro Swirl and Hydro Burst to amplify damage.
  • Farm Winds of the Past and Wanderer's Troupe domains to obtain artifacts and materials for his build.
In an ideal team composition, Hydro Traveler can be paired with characters like Barbara or Xingqiu to amplify his damage output through Hydro Swirl reactions. However, this team composition requires a significant investment in characters, artifacts, and materials. To clear the Abyss, consider the following team composition:
  • Hydro Traveler (main DPS)
  • Barbara (sub DPS and Hydro Swirl reaction)
  • Xingqiu (sub DPS and Hydro Swirl reaction)
  • Keqing (sub DPS and Electro elemental reaction)
  • Qiqi (support and Healing bonus)
This team composition requires a significant investment in characters, artifacts, and materials, but can provide a high damage output in the Abyss.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: At the time of writing this, Hydro Traveler provides no utility to a team that cannot be better filled by another unit, including Barbara which all players can obtain at AR 18.
SUPPORT Since Hydro Traveler lacks any utility, this playstyle focuses on using their Skill and Burst to trigger various support-based weapon and artifact passives along with dealing Pneuma damage with their Skill. This is only recommended if a source of Pneuma is required and Traveler is your only source of Pneuma aligned damage. It should be noted that the guaranteeable 4-Star "Sword of Narzessinkreuz" can also provide an Arkhe attack for other characters, meaning Hydro Traveler's usability is further diminished if this weapon has been obtained.
Artifact Sets:

  • Tenacity of the Millelith: Only used if you use the hold version of Hydro Traveler's Skill.

ON FIELD DPS Hydro Traveler can be used as an on-field DPS. Typically this is only worth using in teams with Furina, Bennett, and a flexible unit. Their DPS is not extremely high, however.
Weapon Choices:
  • Uraku Misugiri: This weapon is Hydro Traveler's Best Weapon in teams with a Geo character.
  • Summit Shaper: This is ranked assuming Hydro Traveler is C4 which provides a shield for him.
  • Wolf Fang: At R5 this weapon is about equal to Light of Foliar Incision.
  • Favonius Sword: This weapon's utility may make it better than above options.

Content Requirements:
  • Use accurate Genshin Impact terminology.
  • Keep all game mechanics accurate.
  • Maintain build recommendations.
  • Preserve team compositions.
  • Keep farming locations if mentioned.
